Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is a corrinoid compound containing a pyrrole ring. Vitamin B12 cannot be synthesized in the human body. The main sources are meat, fish, eggs and dairy products. Vitamin B12 deficiency can affect red blood cell synthesis and can lead to megaloblastic anemia due to abnormal DNA synthesis. Therefore, it is mainly used clinically to aid in the diagnosis of megaloblastic anemia.
