HLA – Human Leukocyte antigen system. This is the name of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) in humans. The HLA system plays an important role in the immune system and is a primary factor in causing transplant rejection.
On March 21, 2024, Phu Gia had a sharing and discussion session about the idea of deploying an HLA data bank with specialized doctors at Cho Ray Hospital.
In Vietnam, there is no stem cell bank, so the establishment of an HLA database (HLA banking) is extremely necessary and practical. If there is no HLA compatibility between the patient needing a transplant and the donor, the stem cells or organs of the donor may be destroyed by the recipient's immune system, thereby causing symptoms of transplant rejection, which can lead to serious consequences such as death. On the contrary, if there is a similarity in HLA between the two individuals, the transplant has a high success rate. Therefore, determining the HLA genotype, in order to find a donor with similar HLA to the recipient, is mandatory and an important factor for the success of the transplant.
Currently, Phu Gia is not only a distributor of medical equipment, Phu Gia also carries a mission towards the community and the country's health. Coordinating with leading medical experts to implement the HLA banking idea is one of the projects that Phu Gia puts first. Because when HLA banking is implemented, it will contribute to the progress of the Vietnamese health sector, while helping patients have more treatment opportunities.
